What is IntelliTone™ technology?

This technology is cutting-edge, it zeroes in on cables with a digital signal-toning and signal-interpreting process. Using a smart, synchronised digital signal it energises cable conductors. Multiple tone types are used in the signal which helps to locate the correct cable bundle, Isolate a cable within a bundle and Verify cable conductor continuity.

Amprobe LAN-1 Network Cable Tester

What is a LAN cable tester?

LAN testers are devices that allow a user to verify and test a connection or signal within a data cable. The types of tests include whether the cable is set up correctly, connected, the strength or speed of the signal being sent through the cable.

How do network cable testers work?

Usually made up of 2 sections or 2 boxes, a network cable tester will have a receiver and a transmitter. A cable is then connected directly or with connectors to both for testing. Once the tester is switched on a signal or data is sent via the cable and a report or the results are shown on the receiver. Receivers comes in a variety of types, shapes and sizes and therefore the results may vary in the way they are displayed. Some have LED’s, some show patterns in lights and some different colours. The tester instruction manual will show what the results mean but some testers help determine the connection speed and detect problems.

What is the difference between RJ45 & RJ11?

RJ45 is an 8-pin connector whereas RJ11 is only a 4 wire connector. RJ45 is used in Ethernet connections to connect computers to networks. RJ11 is more of a conventional telephone wire used to bring fibre into your house. RJ is the abbreviation of ’registered jack’.
